2022 Aprilia Tuono V4 (non-factory) review - the best version of the Tuono?

  • The Aprilia Tuono V4 is usually seen dripping with Ohlins suspension and some nice red bodywork - but what about the forgotten non-factory version? I spent a couple of weeks riding one to see if I'd save my £2600 and get the comfier, more touring-friendly one. Join me for a full walkaround and a bit of onboard mumbling as I find out…

    Bang on review , I had traded my last 1290r superduke for one last year ,massive fun but at much higher speeds than the duke , awesome on track too . Now back on a superduke R as every outing on the tuono was getting silly . Wished I could afford to have kept both .

    Nice review Tim. Just bought one of these [in grey of course and it was 4,000 Euro's cheaper than the factory] and what a bike it is. Here in Normandy, France I am surrounded by Aprilia dealers [luckily] and have seen quite a few Tuono's on the great empty roads we have here [no pot holes either]. The seat is a little on the hard side as you mentioned so I will be replacing that with the factory gel seat for more comfort. I will also replace the exhaust with something a little naughtier [but not too loud] and sexier when she is run in. I don't have the front brake issue you seemed to have so it was probably unique to the test model you had so hopefully the Aprilia boys will sought it. Tim, this bike is so engaging and a total hoot to ride [as you obviously found for your good self] that I can not stop laughing and giggling to myself every time I ride it. She's a keeper. Anyway mate ride safe and take care.

    • @alexanderhopkins2807
      @alexanderhopkins2807 2 года назад +2

      I have no issue with the brake either 🤷🏻‍♂️ You can trail brake and it feels fine. The low rev clatter is much improved after disconnecting the exhaust valve and that improves the sound especially when down blipping. I have confused mine a couple of times by quick shifting with a bit of clutch which brings on an error message. Ctrl-Alt-Del ( switch off for a minute and switch on again) cured this and now I use the quick shifter up and down religiously.

    Well that's if it's insurable . Me passing as a just over 50 middle aged old git, I couldn't insure a Street Triple 765 which are a bit "tame" compared to this !
    They weren't too keen on insuring a mere 96 BHP Speed Twin. Really all the insurance companies wanted to insure were 47 -> 70 ish BHP bikes. Quotes on Suzuki SV650s weren't too bad.

      I have ridden both, the Tuono V4, KTM Super Duke R, and Ducati Street Fighter V4. For me the choice would be Super Duke r. Why? Instant power, cheapest of the bunch, best fuel economy, and the character of the motorycle. I just don't like very long geared, and reavy bikes. It's just fail on the public roads, you have to rev such engine out to get the giggles, and you go 100 mph in second gear.... Not my coup of thee. I want to be able to play with that gearbox a bit. However you will not often find your self riding 5th gear on the Super Duke r either.

If the choice were what bike would be more suitable to do track days, I understand that other options could be more tempting, but for a general use on public roads, I think this bike, even without the electronic suspension is fully capable and the Best Buy that you can make.

      Also, the grey is entirely uninspiring. I sat on a V4 tuono (wasnt old) and the seat was horrendously uncomfortable, would like to see what the gel seat feels like.

      @@MiddletoM the grey looks very cohesive and classy. The seat is extremely comfortable, albeit slippery.

    This should be called tuono gt (grand touring) the tuono is supposed to be a hyper naked and go head to head against the streetfoghter. Not some dad toruing boring adv bike. Paint looks horrilbe and the windscreen to. If u prefer this over the factory then get a veyrsis 650 or a 1200gs

      Noted. More choices is a bad thing.
      It's got a screen and color change for people who ACTUALLY RIDE and when riding don't want to look like they're riding a freaking billboard. Not this garbage some of you people do where you put 50 miles or 75 miles on to and from a Starbucks and stand around talking about how fast your bike is. Furthermore, Aprilia decided to do this because enough of the base was asking for it. Comfort for the people that have twisties near by, but not too near by, and how great this bike goes is pure win and they lose NOTHING by doing this.

    Don't you love living in a dystopian country, where your "voice over" doesn't prove it was you riding, yet you have to blur out the speed so GOV. don't come after you with speeding tickets yet no proof it was you.
    Guilty until you prove your innocence.

    It does not have a taller 6th gear. The reason it holds lower revs at 6th Gear is the reason it roll holds lower revs at every gear. It's geared taller. Plus two teeth on the rear sprocket. (Can be seen in the parts fiche.)
